"Do we always have to suffer to achieve our goals?" - Angela Chee
What do we lose when we choose to believe in "no pain, no gain" at all costs?
I admit that growing up, I thought that working too hard was a badge of honor. Even as a young adult I fell into that all too common trap of believing that the last one to leave the office each day was winning a contest of some kind. Early on in my career, I believed that it was okay to be working seven days a week -- and I enjoyed all of it. Then I got burnt out.
This is an episode about reevaluating how we are programmed and when that starts to get in our way. We have to ask ourselves if we were brought up with this mentality, in which ways it served us, and in which ways it did not. What was the outcome?
