Moment of Meditation: Imposter (Matthew 27:62-64)
''The next day, that is, after the day of Preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered before Pilate and said, "Sir, we remember how that impostor said, while he was still alive, 'After three days I will rise.' Therefore order the tomb to be made secure until the third day, lest his disciples go and steal him away and tell the people, 'He has risen from the dead,' and the last fraud will be worse than the first" (Matthew 27:62-64).''
Even on the holiest of Sabbaths of the year, the chief priests and the Pharisees wanted to prove that Jesus was an imposter. But Jesus is not an imposter. '''YOU''' are the imposter. '''YOU''' are the one who pretends to be more than you are. But '''HE''' is the real deal. Jesus doesn't pretend. That's part of the sinful nature.
Jesus died on the cross and rose on the third day, as He prophesied. He died and rose to redeem pretenders. Pretenders like you and me. Pretenders who act like we're more than we are. As we pretend, we pretend that we don't have sin. Or that sin doesn't bother us. But Jesus really took on human flesh so that He could redeem pretenders.
Pretend no longer. Embrace Christ as your Savior from sin. He doesn't pretend to redeem you. His redemption is real. Amen.
