105: The Poor Need You, and You Need the Poor (with Blake Brouillette)
Welcome back to the podcast, Blake Brouillette! If you missed our previous conversation, check that out here!
We talk about the services Christ in the City provides in the city of Denver. The purpose is twofold: to form missionaries, and to serve the poor in the chronically homeless. The hope is that this mission will expand beyond Denver into other communities in need!
I share how "Blessing Bags", an idea Blake shared with me previously, has changed our family's life. We talk about what it means to see others not as strangers, but as someone who needs love. We also talk about the absolutely indispensable need for community as the basis of mission life (you can't serve strangers if you don't love the people you live with!) We also each share our experiences of thinking we could change the world, and being humbled by what we could learn from the poor. Blake shares some wisdom about finding your own Calcutta, and figuring out how to serve exactly where you are.
If doing something about homelessness is on your heart, please donate to Christ in the City and help them serve and expand!
Join Christ in the City on October 2nd for a Virtual Annual Celebration (check the website for details).
Challenge from Blake: Look to your left. Look to your right. See who are the poor in your community, and find your own Calcutta!
HEY YOU! Yep. You. Are you Pam Beesly, Kelly Kapoor, or Jim Halpert? Could you possibly be Dwight?
