Dana TherActivist Johnson, MSW (They/Them/Theirs) is a masculine of center gender non-binary community activist, author, entrepreneur, documentary filmmaker, workshop facilitator/ instructor, and consultant. Dana received a master’s degree in social work, a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, and has a variety of professional certifications. Dana currently serves as a LGBTQ Commissioner for the County of San Mateo. They're a co-chair of the County of San Mateo Health Equity- PRIDE Initiative. Dana has co-coordinated the San Mateo County LGBTQ+ Pride Celebration since 2016 and has been on the coordinating committee since its existence in 2012. They're the emcee of San Mateo County Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) program. Dana's a Board of Director for Rainbow Community Center Contra Costa County. They are a member of a Transgender Coalition for the County of Santa Clara. Dana’s also a Fellow, of Equality of California, Institute Leadership Academy. Dana provides LGBTQ+ advocacy services, social justice services, juvenile justice services, equity services, mental health services, resources, and training to agencies and organizations in the Bay Area. For approximately sixteen years, Dana has been providing rehabilitated services and counseling youth for a probation department in the Bay Area. They are also providing LGBTQ+ training to a Bay Area probation department to educate and address the importance of LGBTQ+ inclusiveness in the law enforcement field. The "TherActivist" provides services using a "therapeutic activism" healing modality. Therapeutic Activism is a community-centered approach, that I created to apply a healing framework to advance social justice, equity and inclusion for marginalized population. Dana is motivated in assisting in the implementation of inclusive policies and protocols; and passionate about providing LGBTQ+ equity services, social justice services, and activism to marginalized communities. Dana is working with other community leaders to help bring visibility, resources, social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion to LGBTQ+ communities. When they are not working, Dana enjoys taking a self-care walk/hike, catching a movie, watching sports, and spending time with their family and friends.
