27. Rick's Story Pt 1: The Worst Story His Counsellor Had Ever Seen

Welcome to episode #27! In this week's episode, Rick Thomson shares Part One of his incredible story journeying from the pit of peep shows, lies and cheating, to ultimate freedom from the bondage of porn.

An Innocent Beginning Can Lead To Huge Destruction
Rick found pornographic magazines and would occasionally look at them with friends. He was a pastor's kid, but started partying when he was team captain of the best hockey team in town. A girl caught his eye, and she put an end to that. He didn't tell her anything about where his porn addiction had taken him to during the five years of dating or almost ten years of marriage.

God Will Expose Our Dirt
Rick's wife started getting suspicious but Rick has learned to become, what she called, a "Professional Liar." He would get mad at her for accusing him of acting out in sexually immoral ways, even though she was right. He committed to never again going to peep shows, but to never tell anyone what he was doing either. That night, his wife started getting tormenting dreams of snakes in their bed and other scenarios that didn't line up with who she thought Rick was. She demanded he tell her what was going on, so he did. When he woke up, his wife and kids were gone.

There Are Consequences To Sin
Rick's wife tried giving him grace, going to a counsellor, and working through their problems, but Rick kept lying. She couldn't take the lies anymore, realizing that for 15 years, the man she committed to had been covering his tracks the whole time. Eventually, she checked out emotionally and ended their marriage for good. Stay tuned for Part Two of Rick's story, coming next week!
