Welcome to episode #12! In this week's podcast, Braden and Matt discuss the importance of intentionally addressing pornography in the church. Find out what the Bible says about it, what happens when church leaders take action, and practical ways to implement programs in your church.
Here is a brief summary of the episode.
Church leaders need to understand the threat porn is presenting
The time for urgency is now! If we don't talk about porn and sex in the church, we'll be spinning on our wheels in the church, but going nowhere. When people are in sexual sin, they can't relate to sermons about worship, intimacy, outreach, etc., because they are too full of guilt and shame over their addiction. In Ezekiel 34, church leaders are called to address the hurts that members experience. Right now, a major 'hurt' in the church is pornography.
Porn affects everybody
This is more than just a man's issue. Women are the fastest growing subsection in terms of porn viewership. Parents often don't know how to talk about porn in the home. Wives are also so traumatized by their husband's porn use and often feel left out whenever porn is mentioned. 100% of people in our churches live in a hyper-sexualized world and we are to be equipped to make a difference.
Be proactive, not reactive
We need to address porn in the church knowing that it's already a problem. It's damaging to wait until couples are on the brink of divorce to finally talk about it. Non-church leaders, it's unhealthy to be bitter about your pastor not addressing it if porn is in your life. Find help wherever help is being offered! Take action to get free and healthy yourself. You can lovingly let your pastor know the damage in your life and encourage them to address it.
