034 Supported Living Tenancies with Suzanne Gale
In this episode Suzanne Gale talks about the importance of legal tenancies in supported living, why there is often no proper tenancy in place and what should happen. She describes the difference between supported living and residential care and has some great advice for property investors.
Suzanne Gale started her working life as a Radio Production teacher at the BRIT school in South London and, realising that she had a particular interest in the pastoral side of working with young people, moved to a job at a Housing Association in the late 90s. Since then she’s woven her way through a number of roles in Social Housing and Social Care, working on the Supporting People Programme, as the National Project Manager on the Care Funding Calculator (now CareCubed) and working with Councils and Providers to manage depleting budgets whilst maintaining good practice.
More recently she’s focused on driving forward good practice in Supported Living, training and supporting Local Authority and Provider staff in tenancy law and raising awareness amongst tenants and their families about their rights and responsibilities within a supported housing environment. Suzanne is a regular contributor to Community Living Magazine and is currently training to be an independent legal advocate for adults without capacity.
