Aussie Alison has left her family and small hometown to live with her partner in picturesque Sydney. As her 19th birthday rapidly approaches, she receives a telephone call from her adoptive aunt, who expresses the importance of her return. Alison’s uncle has taken ill and it is imperative that she spend his final days with him. Bringing her doting radio DJ boyfriend with her, Alison leaves for home, but slowly finds something isn’t right. Her family takes an immediate disliking to her partner and won’t allow him in the house. There is an elderly woman now living there, a great grandmother Alison never knew she had. As her birthday grows near, it becomes more than evident that Alison’s family have some very sinister plans in store for her.
I’m very glad to have Tony a.k.a. The Thunder from Down Under on-board for this obscure slice of Ozploitation. As far as I know, ALISON’S BIRTHDAY has only ever received a VHS and long out of print DVD release in the US. It’s also rarely seen in its native Australia. If you’d like to watch along, your best bet is a pretty grainy old VHS rip, which you can easily find on YouTube.
