SDP 027 Check yourself, before you wreck yourself (holding yourself accountable everyday in everyway)
MANTRA: I CANNOT CHANGE MY LIFE UNTIL I CAN CHANGE MY DAY.
1. What is accountability? Actions have consequences.
2. Everything is your fault even if it is not. The leader is responsible and accountable for the mission no matter what. Not just for the effort but of the results.
3. Accountability is a key element to personal achievement. It differs from responsibility because it is a choice not an obligation.
a. An employee is hired and given responsibilities
b. You have accepted responsibility for the outcome as a leader.
4. Public accountability is sharing your goals with other people to help you stay accountable. Not always comfortable. Join some public challenges.
5. Accountability buddy. Set clear terms on the expectations of the agreement
6. Private accountability, and journaling. Not reliable but can be developed. We accept too many weak excuses and limiting beliefs to not remain accountable.
7. We are often uncomfortable with change because of its potential to take us some where that we have never been and that is scary. Seek discomfort.
8. The only way that we can grow from our mistakes is to acknowledge that we made them. Passing the buck and spreading blame solves nothing and we can’t lie to ourselves.
9. Know this, that it is highly unlikely that you are always right and never at fault.
10. Even if you truly believe that it is not your fault. Try to imagine a scenario that puts at least some if not all of the blame on you, then correct that deficiency.
11. Be mindful and aware of all sides of any given situation. This is very hard to do if you tend to be emotional and reactive. Know this about yourself and try to do better.
12. Set a morning goal of what you want to work on internally and hold yourself accountable to that in the evening. This builds internal credit.
13. Show up no matter what, to establish the reputation of the one people can count on. This builds external credit.
14. Over deliver on your promises to other people and to yourself. This extends your credit limit.
15. Your credit limit allows you to “buy in” on larger and more complicated goals.
16. Trust is the foundation to any healthy relationship so you must be able to trust yourself as well.
17. You can only build this trust slowly overtime.
18. Your relationship with yourself is the most important relationship you will ever have.
19. You have to know when you are beating yourself up, interrupt those negative patterns of self-deprecating talk and refocus on your goals.
20. Start with the small goals to build that credibility with yourself. After you have some credit, you can aim for larger and more complicated goals.
21. If you miss that goal today or fail to live up to your expectation, decide that you will try one more time tomorrow.
22. No one else is responsible for your reality and only you can make success happen through your thoughts actions and accountability.
