The Poetry of John Bradburne - 001 - The John Bradburne Story
Presented by David Crystal. David Crystal is honorary professor of linguistics at the University of Bangor, and works from his home in Holyhead, North Wales, as a writer, lecturer, editor, and broadcaster. He has been writing on topics in linguistics, with particular reference to the English language, since 1964, and a complete list of his publications, along with fuller biodata, can be found on his website www.davidcrystal.com. He received an OBE for services to the English language in 1995. His best-known books include The Cambridge Encyclopaedia of the English Language and The Stories of English, and his most recent book, published in July, is Tales of the Linguistically Unexpected. His recordings of the Catholic lectionary for lockdown can be found at www.lectionaryreadings.co.uk. He has edited all of John Bradburne's poetry for the online website www.johnbradburnepoems.com, and written a full account of the poems in A Life Made of Words: The Poetry and Thought of John Bradburne, available from his website or the John Bradburne Memorial Society. With his wife Hilary he has published several anthologies of the poems: Songs of the Vagabond, John Bradburne's Mutemwa, John Bradburne's Book of Days, John Bradburne's Birds Bees and Beasts, and John Bradburne on Love.
