Elvis tribute artist from Appleton advocates for performers with autism and LGBTQ+ community
A local Elvis Presley tribute artist with autism wants to inspire others to chase their dreams with his performances.
Aaron Smith, 26, of Grand Chute can regularly be seen at Déjà Vu Martini Lounge in downtown Appleton during its live band karaoke night, donning full Elvis regalia and belting out his favorite tune, “Suspicious Minds.” While the pandemic has halted performances, Smith said he’s strived for years to be an advocate for people of all abilities and the LGBTQ+ community.
“I remember growing up at a young age and being on the autism spectrum, and dealing with that in the early 2000s when there wasn’t really any advocacy for it,” he said. “I want to make something to make people more aware that you can push boundaries and do anything you want to do.”
