The President of the European Commission says her recent humiliating treatment by the Turkish President happened because she was a woman.
In a speech to the European Parliament last night, Ursula von der Leyen described how she was relegated to a sofa during her recent trip to Ankara.
The EU boss was meeting the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan along with the head of the European Council Charles Michel. But while both men sat down on stately chairs, President von der Leyen had to sit on a sofa nearby.
