Matthew 6:11–15

The next three petitions in the Lord’s prayer cover all of our human needs—physical and spiritual; past, present, and future. Our Lord teaches us to pray for our daily bread, for the forgiveness of our sins, and for deliverance from evil. We are to pray for our present physical needs—bread; the forgiveness of our past sins; and for protection from sin as we head into the future. All of these requests are to be permeated with the recognition that our Father has forgiven us and therefore, we also forgive others.
