An EU wide initiative to engage people in shaping Europe’s future could lead to changes in EU treaties which would mean holding a referendum in Ireland. So says the Fine Gael MEP Sean Kelly.
The Conference on the Future of Europe was officially launched yesterday in Strasbourg. The year-long event aims to involve EU citizens in contributing ideas on Europe’s future.
European, national, regional and local authorities as well as civil society and other organisations, will be able to organise events. And a multi-lingual digital platform has been set up to enable people to get involved online.
Some proposals could mean changes to EU Treaties according to Sean Kelly.
