TRAUMA-INFORMED CONFLICT RESOLUTION
Helgi Maki is a groundbreaking advocate for trauma-informed practices. Helgi will be with us to share trauma-informed approaches to conflict resolutions and lawyering as a means to improve access to justice, and to reduce harm. She is a graduate of the University of Toronto Faculty of Law with an M.A. from Carleton University, and joined the Ontario Bar in 2003 and the New York Bar in 2005. Helgi is the co-editor of a forthcoming book on trauma-informed lawyering to be published by the Law Practice Management Division of the American Bar Association. Helgi is also a mindfulness instructor, a movement teacher, and an executive coach.
REMEMBRANCE OF BISHOP GEORGE DALLAS MCKINNEY
Bishop George Dallas McKinney lived a full life of 88 years. Bishop McKinney founded St. Stephen’s Cathedral Church of God in Christ in 1962 along with his late wife, Jean C. McKinney, M.Ed. Bishop McKinney marched with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., advised U.S. Presidents, and was a core leader in his church for over 70 years. He had a life-long commitment to peaceful living and peacebuilding. He was often called upon during times of turmoil and distress to be a voice for reason and peace. He was a long-time supporter of the Department of Peacebuilding and San Diego Kids/ Young Adults for Peace. Among his many awards, the Shelter Island Rotary Club presented him with The Peace Maker Award in recognition of his many years of work in the area of racial unity. Pastor Glenn A. McKinney is the fifth and youngest son of Bishop George Dallas McKinney and Jean C.McKinney M.Ed. Pastor McKinney, joins us to memorialize the life and work of a man who has given so much to the world. In the family tradition of community service, Pastor McKinney serves as a pastor at St. Stephen's Church, an anchor in San Diego's inner city for almost 60 years. Pastor Glenn McKinney was born at the height of the civil rights era. He carries on the legacy of three generations of dedication to community service. His grandparents, who could literally touch slavery, are the foundation of this legacy.
