Interview Stephen Jerome Ferguson

Stephen was born and raised in Washington D.C. He started to be interested in music at the age of 12. He started learning the piano, moved to guitar and finally settled in learning the bass guitar which became his main instrument. Stephen is a self taught musician and has studied several genres of music.

At the age of 16 he co founded the gospel group True Voices of Christ. The group played programs all over the east coast for 3 years. Stephen joined the U.S. Army where he co founded the R&B/Jazz group FFB with guitarist Paul Ferguson and drummer Michael Burrell. The group played together for 3 years and played for US military audiences as well as local audiences all over Europe.

Stephen retired from the military in 1993 and began studying music production. He started SJF Music LLCas his production company in 2006 and has since released 10 solo albums and has produced music forseveral independent artists. He has worked with some well known artists including Howard Hewitt,Roberta Flack, Chuck Brown and George Benson.

Stephen opened his record label, Ambyent Records in 2017. The label was designed to take care of the special needs of independent artists.
