Guest Bio:
Nakia L. Roberson is the founder and owner of Next Stage Counseling & Wellness, PLLC. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Professional School Counselor, Educator and Public Speaker. She is also nationally board certified and trained as a Prepare/ Enrich facilitator. She considers it a privilege working with individuals as they discover healing by making the choice to change hindering situations, and gaining clarity through counseling tools, to interpret and respond differently to life challenges.
Nakia’s passion is wellness and relationships. Relationships across all aspects… with self and others. She uses clinically tested and evidence-based interventions to help women and couples in discouraging relationships to rebuild friendship, manage conflict and understand the importance of listening to understand rather than to respond. She believes taking your life to the Next Stage is about intentionality. It’s not enough to wish for healthy relationships, one must take steps to make it happen.
One of her goals is to break the stigmatism in the African American and Christian community of therapy meaning “you’re crazy” or “you lack faith in God”. She says, “Going to therapy is NOT a sign of weakness and it doesn’t mean you don’t believe God has the ability to heal you or your situation.” Therapy is simply a way of gaining clarity and perspective … she wants people to do both, talk to God and go to therapy.
After all, Faith without works is dead, so why not use all the resources God has placed on Earth to receive the healing you need, desire and deserve. Hence, her “I talk to God...and my therapist” merchandise store.
