The Daily Wake Up Micro Podcast
Business:Entrepreneurship
Last night at our Leave it to Beaver style family dinner, we were reminiscing about our family five to six years ago. We all took turns saying, "remember when . . ." followed by a funny story that had everyone laughing so hard it was difficult to breathe. One of the stories was about a huge mistake I made as a parent. As I sat there feeling horrible, the kids were all laughing because of how funny it was. Including my youngest who got the brunt of my mistake.
In an article written for heysigmund.com, Karen Young revealed:
The research found that by savoring a positive memory, there was a kind of ‘re-experiencing’ of the event contained in the memory. Senses were re-engaged and the emotions associated with the memory were re-experienced. As well as this, the meaning contained in the positive memory helped to push against any negative beliefs that tried to push their way through and cause trouble. Feelings of warmth, social safeness (how connected you feel to others) and calm were increased, while negative feelings were decreased.
Remembering positive memories can help overcome negative feelings.
