The Daily Wake Up Micro Podcast
Business:Entrepreneurship
The COVID-19 Coronavirus has put us in the midst of a global crisis. Not just our country, the entire world is feeling the effects of this deadly disease.
It’s been reported a record 3.28 million unemployment claims have come in last week up from 282,000 the week before. Experts estimate more to come in as the economy slows down further.
What if you are let go? What are you going to do?
Are you going to catch up on Netflix shows? Will you finally pass the level on Candy Crush? Or maybe you’ll relax playing video games.
If this is what you’ll be doing after you’re let go, you should’ve been let go long before the Coronavirus.
Losing your job is a gift of time. What will you do with the time given back to you? Previously, that time belonged to your employer. Now, you own that time.
How will you grow?
Will you grow your skill set? Will you grow your leadership skills? Will you read a book a day? Yes, you read right, a book a day.
Become a member of your local library and start downloading books now. Allocate two to three hours a day reading a book to increase your professional value. Grow in your skills set, leadership, personal or professional development.
While reading, write down anything you find valuable in a notepad.
Do this daily.
If you are out of work for five days, you’ve read five books. If you are out of work for two weeks, you’ve read ten books. Not only have you read them you’ve physically written down what you found valuable. Studies reveal the physical act of writing retains your memory by 40%.
The more information you retain, the greater your value increases.
Everyone has a problem, including employers. The more you know the more you have the capacity to solve problems. As you start interviewing again, you can highlight the books you’ve read and what you’ve learned from them.
Your new job will be an increase in pay from your previous job.
I don’t mean to be insensitive to your situation. Losing your job can be difficult time in anyone’s life. My point is how are you going to look at the gift given back to you?
How will you use this gift to grow?
