In this episode, new host Anders Halverson interviews a new host on the fisheries podcast, Zach Crum. Zach grew up in Chesapeake, Virginia where he developed a passion for fishing and the marine environment at an early age. He took his passion for angling and all things fish to Virginia Tech, where he studied marine fish conservation and completed several internships pertaining to fisheries science. Since graduating with his Bachelor's in 2019, Zach has worked as a fisheries technician for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Alaska and the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission in California, where he currently works on the Central Valley Steelhead Monitoring Program. He is particularly interested in fisheries ecology and conservation and will be starting his Master's at Salisbury University in Maryland this fall.
Main Point: Why doesn't everyone want to be a fisheries biologist?!
