2020 was all about the COVID-19 pandemic. COVID decimated the elite sport industry with leagues all over the world impacted upon by the domestic and international border closures. Many leagues couldn't go ahead, whilst others were forced into COVID bubbles or hubs in order to allow the sport's competition to go ahead. Despite what you see on TV, being housed in a resort or luxury hotel isn't as glamorous as what many would expect. There's no real escape or detachment from your work and many are living away from their families. Athletes rightly take the attention, but it's the coaching and support staff that have unique challenges that see an equal burden being carried. In this TRIAX10 (which really goes for 15-minutes), Damon and Rob talk about their experiences in elite sporting bubbles and being relocated to continue their respective seasons. The boys touch upon their mental health and how they felt to be involved in such unique circumstances.
Highlights:
- The COVID-19 hotel/quarantine environment
- The burdens placed upon coaching and support staff
- Living restrictions faced by those in the bubble
- Mental Health during the bubble
- Personal challenges they experienced
- Assimilating back into society after the bubble
