It's notable that Meryl Streep has won three Academy Awards, but the truly impressive number is that she has received a total of 21 Academy Award nominations. HCC film professors Marie Westhaver and Mike Giuliano definitely have plenty of films to talk about in this podcast episode! Surveying her early career, Marie and Mike are struck by how quickly she makes a name for herself with supporting roles in "The Deer Hunter" (1978) and "Kramer vs. Kramer" (1979), followed by what is surely one of her greatest lead roles in "Sophie's Choice" (1982). Seemingly with an accent for every occasion, Streep's career also alternates between serious dramas and silly comedies. And, yes, she even sings in a few of her movies. Among the many other films discussed are "Out of Africa" (1985), "The Bridges of Madison County" (1995), "The Devil Wears Prada" (2006), "Mama Mia!" (2008), "The Iron Lady" (2011) and "The Post" (2017).
