One is born with Sickle Cell Anemia; it is inherited and passed down through families and in Nigeria. The carrier prevalence is about 20% to 30% and affects 2% to 3% of the Nigeria population of more than 200 million.
There's no cure for most people with Sickle cell anemia but treatments can relieve pain and help prevent complications associated with this disease.
