Matthew 7:7-12
As Jesus brings this amazing sermon to its conclusion, he ends the main body of it with a call to prayer (Matthew 7:7–12). The standard of righteousness that Jesus has called his disciples to in this sermon is high. No higher standard has ever been given. Thankfully, we are not left to our own resources. Our Father in heaven is prepared to “give good things to those who ask him” (Matt 7:11). Help is available. Jesus says that those who ask, seek, and knock will receive, find, and have it opened to them (Matt 7:8). The only way to live as Jesus calls us to live is if it is in answer to our prayers for help.
