Grip Strip Podcast Episode 70: Controversy at Silverstone and Upset City in New Hampshire
Phil and Josh spend a good amount of the opening portion of GSP Episode 70 discussing the Lewis Hamilton vs Max Verstappen clash at Stowe, which saw the World Driver's Championship leader go off hard and the seven-time World Champion takes his 8th win at Silverstone. The guys go over the race itself, the Sprint, midfield battle and more as F1 prepares for the summer break.
The 2021 SRX Finale at Nashville Fairgrounds came down to the defending Cup champion (Clyde) vs. the first SRX champion (Smoke) but Awesome Bill from Dawsonville may have had the best ride of the entire evening after five weeks of being stuck in a broken car. Do the words of Clyde play a role in whether the Fairgrounds return to the Cup schedule sooner than later?
In NASCAR, Aric Almirola gets out of season purgatory with his first Cup victory at a non-plate track. How does this affect the points standings and what does it mean for Almirola/SHR? Well before the race was shortened, Kyle Busch and Martin Truex, Jr. were adversely affected by a horrible management call by NASCAR letting the race continue in the wet. The guys discuss the #consistentlyinconsistent #selectiveenforcement of the sport and how that makes it harder to trust the sanctioning body regarding safety and changes in general.
For the GSP Roundup, the guys go over the Brad K/Roush announcement, IndyCar staying on NBC Sports, F2/W Series at Silverstone, IMSA at Lime Rock, Supercars at Townsville II, WEC at Monza, NHRA at Denver, WRC Rally Estonia, WSBK at Assen preview, DTM at Lausitzring preview, and Formula E in London.
Josh provides his updates on iRacing during the Sim Segment before the show closes.
