Matthew 7:15–20

Throughout the history of redemption there has always been the problem of how to recognize those who truly speak for God and those who are false. When God wanted to reach down to man to accomplish salvation he spoke through chosen representatives. But false prophets who also claimed to speak for God were always among the true. In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus warns us to beware of false prophets because he knew that just as there was a broad gate and way that led to destruction, so there would be false prophets to keep people from from entering at the narrow gate. False prophets and teachers a still a threat today. We need to watch out for them and know how to recognize them.
