The Sophisticatedly Ratchet Podcast
Society & Culture:Relationships
Peace and blessings, Tribe! Welcome back to the Sophisticatedly Ratchet Podcast, giving the real in a world of fake! In this week’s episode, we continue our SR Love Language Saga and discussion about, The 5 Love Languages: The Secret to Love That Lasts, by Gary Chapman. In his book, the author explains how individuals generally express and experience love in five distinct ways: physical touch, receiving gifts, acts of service, words of affirmation, and quality time. Today, Shake the Wanderer, moderates our discussion about gifts.
For people with gifts as a love language, the act of giving a gift serves as a gesture of affection and care because it shows the person was thinking about you while you weren't around and wanted to find a way to make you smile. The gift also becomes a physical token memorializing a moment, experience, or feeling.
Gifts are a straightforward love language: You feel loved when people give you "visual symbols of love," as Chapman calls it. It's not about the monetary value but the symbolic thought behind the item. People with this style recognize and value the gift-giving process: the careful reflection, the deliberate choice of the object to represent the relationship, and the emotional benefits from receiving the present.
Gifts are obviously an awesome way to communicate and express love but are all gifts appreciated. What's the worst gift you've ever received? Is giving a gift the appropriate way to apologize? Have you ever been disappointed because a gift wasn’t appreciated? Have you ever re-gifted and is the amount spent on a gift a reflection of how much you like someone? Let’s talk this one out, pull up, tune in and join the “Gift of Giving” discussion.
