Perishing Hearers - Pastor Mike Hovland

Matthew 7:24–29

A great danger lies hidden in one of the most critical aspects of the Christian’s life. One of the greatest blessings any believer can have is to have the Word of God in their own language and to have the opportunity to hear the Word of God preached. But in the midst of this great blessing is the subtle danger of deception. We can begin to think that we are okay because we have the Word of God and we hear the Word of God. We can be deceived as to our true spiritual state. Listening to preaching is good, but listening alone is dangerous. The Scriptures are to be believed and obeyed, not merely heard. In the closing words of the Sermon on the Mount Jesus warns about the dreadful results of being hearers only (Matt 7:24–29).
