Philosophy Radio is back! Long journey across thousands of miles of desert and extravagant madness. Like we didn't see that coming.
Today we discuss the Social/Political Philosophy of Libertarianism with a well known Libertarian, Jonathan Carranza
The essential doctrine is simple and to some people, popular in a way that might not have been imagined 10 years ago. It is the fastest growing political doctrine in the world today. It's simple, fair and intelligent. Whatever else we make of it.
Basic premises, following Philosopher Robert Nozick and centuries before him, John Locke, are,
1) Self ownership; you own your life and what you do with it
2) Just exchange by free agreement; you make agreements without being threatened and exchange with others. Broadly speaking, it's know as successful business.
3) Minimal government interference or other "parasitical" government actions and forced extractions (taxes, imprisonment, etc.). Police to protect self and property, courts to enforce just, free agreements and military to resist invasion, "terrorism" and other attacks.
Notice what is not included here in the role of government control and extractions. Very interesting. And perhaps, rational.
Today, Libertarian Jonathan Carranza.
Enjoy!
