When producers Kip Ohman and Stuart Cornfeld decided to update an obscure 1958 horror B-movie, they likely had no idea that they would be embarking on a journey towards creating the groundbreaking critical success that would become The Fly. Directed by David Cronenberg, The Fly tells the story of Seth Brundle, a brilliant scientist and inventor, who has created what he believes to be a teleporting device. While conducting an experiment, he unwittingly allows a fly to enter the device with him, resulting in the two being spliced together. The film opened in 1986 to both critical and commercial acclaim, ultimately earning an Academy Award for Best Makeup and four Saturn Awards for Cronenberg and lead actors Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis.
