Worry No More
Do you ever find yourself worrying?
There is nothing more rampant in the age in which we live than the increasing problem of worry.
Worry is a powerful force to disintegrate the human personality, leaving us frustrated, puzzled, baffled, and bewildered by life.
Worry is a thought that is so distracted it cannot think straight.
Worry is an emotion that brings fretting, vexing, and torment to the mind.
Worry is unnecessary anxiety about the future.
We worry about food, drink, clothing, housing, relationships, bills, business, home life, social life, children, marriage, retirement and even our church life.
We get frustrated over things of which we have no control.
#1 worry is failure to believe in God
#2 Worry is saying God cannot fulfill His promises
#3 Worry is defaming the character of God
#4 Worry is casting doubt on God’s ability to regulate the future
#5 Worry is saying I can control my own circumstances, but God can’t.
#6 Worry is hypocrisy, we confess our faith but not in His truthfulness.
The Greek word for anxiety is merimno which means to divide, part, rip or tear apart. We know whatever divides and tears us is from the devil.
It is to have a divided mind and we cannot decide what to do.
God’s prescription for worry is a life of prayer.
Our very first line of defense against the destructive force of worry is prayer.
We must not suppress our worries but express them to God.
It is taking everything to God.
Not some things, the good things, the bad things, the big things but everything to the Lord in prayer.
We must begin to share intricate details of life. Nothing is too big that God cannot handle and too small that He is not be concerned.
We go to God in prayer because He has promised to meet our needs.
In Matthew 6, God promises to meet all our needs just like He meets the basic needs of the birds and the lilies of the field.
So why worry?
#1 Prayer and petition relieve anxiety by trusting.
#2 Prayer to conquer worry will transform you into giving thanks.
#3 Thanksgiving relieves anxiety by accepting our circumstances as from a loving God.
#4 God will substitute that worry with His own divine peace.
The peace of God is a supernatural peace that goes beyond all human reasoning of logic and beyond human comprehension.
It is an inner assurance that comes as one trusts in God’s sovereignty.
The peace of God comes through the Christian’s daily fellowship with the Lord Jesus Christ.
The key to stopping worrying are obeying, trusting, loving, serving, and being occupied with Christ and His Word.
So, worry no more, put everything to God in prayer. He will answer you.
Let us pray
Dear Lord, help us to experience peace in our life trusting in you completely. We put all our troubled minds to rest, all our worries and burdens we bring to you, and claim the promise that you will give us rest, peace, and freedom from worries. We thank you and praise you. In Jesus Name. Amen.
