September 26 2021 - Sunday AM Sermon
Grief, Hope, and Perseverance by David Chang
- Three Reminders from Jeremiah’s Prayer
- Jeremiah Was Transparent About His Struggles
- Jeremiah Struggled (Jer. 12:1-4, 15:18)
- Jeremiah was one of many to be honest about struggles
- E.g., David (Psa. 6, 31, 51, 142, etc.); Elijah (1 Kgs.19:14); Habakkuk (Hab. 1:2-4)
- Jeremiah Was Not Rebuked For His Prayers
- God did not scold, but inspired courage and faith through his promises
- Jesus Knows the Human Condition (Heb. 2:8, 4:15-16)
- Therefore we can approach God with our struggles with confidence
- Jeremiah Was Promised Deliverance
- Message of Hope in the Prophets
- Judgment is sorrow for wrongdoers, but relief for the righteous
- Jeremiah was not a stranger to suffering, but God promises him deliverance (Jer. 15:20-21)
- Perseverance in Faith
- “Do not pray for an easy life, pray for the strength to endure a difficult one”
- Remember the three lessons from Jeremiah’s prayer:
- Vocalize our struggles to God
- God is for us, not against us
- Hope for the deliverance promised by God
