The Polish prime minister has been subjected to blistering attacks from MEPs in the European Parliament over rule of law issues that are causing increasing concerns across the bloc.
They were debating a recent ruling by Poland’s constitutional tribunal which found that EU laws were incompatible with its own national constitution.
During the debate in Strasbourg, the Prime Minister of Poland - (Mateusz Morawiecki) defended the ruling and accused the EU of double standards against his country.
Fine Gael MEP Frances Fitzgerald said the recent constitutional ruling in Poland represents a ‘blatant disrespect’ of EU values and principles. She demanded to know why the Prime Minister would 'persecute' his own people and disregard the rule of law and human rights.
