FISH GATE
Nehemiah 3:3
The Fish Gate was rebuilt by the sons of Hassenaah. They laid its
beams and put its doors and bolts and bars in place.
Fish are considered provision. Fish also symbolizes people. It speaks of
service to the people.
This gate opened to the sea of galilee where people brought fish from the
Mediterranean Sea. To the north of the city of Jerusalem lay the Sea of
Galilee.
Mathew 4: 18-20 As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two
brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net
into the lake, for they were fishermen. Come, follow me, Jesus said, and I will
send you out to fish for people. At once they left their nets and followed him.
The Fish Gate is the soul winner's gate in the experience of the Christian life.
Like how the walls in the time of Nehemiah required repair, the ruins of this
gate is in desperate need of repair in the church today.
We have allowed this gate to be broken down, burned with fire, and for all
practical purposes destroyed.
This gate follows, in order, immediately after the Sheep Gate. It is a natural
and spiritual desire that the Holy spirit implants in the soul of a newborn child
of God.
If your salvation experience is real, then that realization of how God has
rescued you from hell itself, redeemed your unworthy soul, and added you to
the family of God, will compel you to witness to others.
This is a good sign of repentance and genuine conversion. A saving
experience at the Sheep Gate of redemption, will send you running to the Fish
Gate of reaching out.
So, immediately after salvation comes evangelism. When we read the story of
Samaritan women in the bible, she went around the whole town telling what
Jesus did to her.
I’m sure that Jesus walked through this gate many times as he began his
ministry and the choosing of his disciples as they fished along the shores of
Galilee.
One by one, he picked them as he spoke those words, “come, follow me, and I
will make you fishers of men.”
That’s the same call that goes out today.
After we come to Christ through The Sheep Gate, the first commandment that
Jesus gives us to go out into all the world and preach the gospel to every
person.
God’s call to transform the marketplace.
This gate depicts we as believers have a moral responsibility to be spiritual
leaders for the marketplace.
It shows how God calls us to exercise their authority in the marketplace and
how God holds spiritual leaders responsible for the moral conditions in the
market place.
As spiritual leaders are not just called to a church congregation, or a ministry
in a city, but are called to the city itself.
There is a need to take a spiritual inventory of the city so that we can pray to
watch over the city.
Gates of a city can be identified by asking a few questions.
What are the spheres of influence in the city?
What are the spheres of authority?
And what are the spheres of education and entertainment?
These are the gateways of influence in a city that the enemy is seeking to
possess.
We need to take these gates back through prayer.
By praying and worshipping over these gates, the idols are cast out of the city
as the king did in the natural.
It’s time for believers to go stand in this gate and take back the marketplace
for God.
As believers, how many souls have we saved in the last two years?
The simple testimony of what Jesus has done in our lives qualifies us to be
great fishers of men.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, Help us to build the ruins of our fish gate and become fishers
of men as you desire us to become. Help us to obey your command. In Jesus
Name. Amen.
