In this Episode of The GRID, host Chris Kuhlmann examines the motivations behind the average citizen’s vote by examining the differences between the two political parties in the US and changes that could be wrought if citizens swore a Hippocratic-like Oath before voting.
SHOW NOTES
Your Vote Matters - and is more fundamental to our democracy and fabric of our country
Do No Harm – by Voting? Those whom we elect to represent our cause of faith and freedom can do much harm. We must choose wisely.
Our country is a system of two-parties, republicans and democrats. In the last several decades the tea-party made a strong push, the green party and libertarian and a whole host of additional fringe groups…but at the end of the day we are a two party system like it or not. So I want to take the major issues and approach it from a biblical point of view. Keep in mind, I’m not talking about any particular candidate, but rather the overall platform.
So let’s look at what I would call the constitutional perspectives of various platforms.
SUBJECT
DEMOCRAT
REPUBLICAN
BIBLICAL PERSPECTIVE
Tax Policy
The rich don’t pay their fair share; they need to be taxed more and used to support the less fortunate
The rich already pay more than their share; government should not increase taxes but rather reduce spending
“Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and give to God what is God’s” By in large the bible is silent, unless your taxes are being used to fund anti-biblical activities such as planned parenthood
Climate Change
Man is causing global climate change and if we don’t change course, we will destroy the earth in a matter of decades
Climate has always been changing and very little is caused by man other than on the local level
I believe we have a responsibility according to scripture to be good stewards of the resources we have been given. However, the bible doesn’t speak to climate change specifically
Universal
Healthcare
Healthcare is a fundamental civil right, it should be universal, and all should receive it
Healthcare is a business transaction and has to be paid for and those resources are finite. It is not a fundamental civil right
The bible is silent to universal healthcare, but does command us to take care of the orphans and widows.
Welfare
We need to broaden the social safety net. It should be easy to qualify for benefits and they should last a long-time
A person who is able to work should work. Yes, we should provide a social safety net, but not create dependence
The bible says we should take care of the widows, orphans, and poor. It also says that if you don’t work you shouldn’t eat. I think it is difficult to say that either side is right, however principally, the Lord wants to have the heart of giving and the democrats version is less aimed at the heart and more at mandate
Abortion
It’s a woman’s right to choose. No one has the right to tell a woman what she can and cannot do with her own body, especially when it comes to be being “pro-choice”. Frequently refer to republicans as “anti-choice”
A woman has a right to choose her healthcare, but not at the expense of another human being. You cannot exercise a right that directly prohibits another human being to the right of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Abortion is murder and life begins at conception. Self-labeled as pro life
Do we need to even debate this? Clearly Christ values life. Is this so different than the pagan religions that sacrificed their children on the altar of Molech and the Lord called it detestable? There is no way you can read and understand the bible and come to the conclusion that Christ supports abortion, zero.
Same Sex Marriages
The definition of a human being is ever evolving…at one time, we were labeled as Male or Female. Now there are over 50 different answers to “what is your gender.” Therefore, the same sex marriage has really evolved to anyone can marry anyone and call themselves anything they like
Traditional gender descriptions apply. Male & Female and the institution of marriage is reserved for the God-given roles of man and wife.
Genesis, Leviticus, Judges, Kings, Romans, Corinthians, Timothy, Jude all speak to the detestable practice of sexual perversion and homosexuality. The biblical perspective is very clear on this issue
How could you vote for Trump? Easy, I didn't vote for Trump, I voted for the platform he supports.
When you don't like your choice of candidates you have to remember that there is a platform they support, a platform that others in the party will hold them accountable for. It's the platform that sets the political agenda for the next couple of years.
Let’s be clear, if you are truly a bible believing evangelical Christian, I ask how you could vote for a platform that truly embodies Isaiah 5:20 “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.”
This is harsh, but these are difficult times; if you vote for a party or platform that embodies what the bible calls abhorrent, calls sin, calls detestable, then you are a hypocrite. A hypocrite of the worst kind. Worse, if you are choosing a party because you believe in the lie of class warfare and that you want to see your pocketbook increase, then that’s a new kind of depravity. For a moment, let’s forget that the lies of income re-distribution won’t deliver on their empty promises. Let’s just boil it down to what you are really saying.
The bible is silent on taxes and other “non-biblical” policies, but it is clear on abortion, life, and marriage. You are literally saying that my wallet is more important than what the Lord has commanded me to do. May it not be so. Do not, please I beg you do not be a hypocrite.
Stand with me today and take the hypocrite oath. The oath that says you will not be a hypocrite that you will vote for the party and platform that supports the most important issues in God’s eyes, not your eyes.
Your Faith determines your values and your values determine your vote. Let your voice be heard at the poll as you support what is important to Christ.
