In this episode we are joined by Theresa Robbins Dudeck and Joel Veenstra talking all things improvisation.
Theresa Robbins Dudeck works globally in both professional and academic settings, applying improvisation to pedagogy, leadership, teamwork, collaborative creation and social change. Dr Dudeck is considered one of the foremost teachers of Keith Johnstone’s impro system – she wrote the critically acclaimed “Keith Johnstone: A Critical Biography”, and is the co-editor of two books on applied improvisation. Theresa is also the co-director and executive producer of the YouTube docu-series “On Keith – Artists Speak on Johnstone and Impro”.
Joel Veenstra is a stage manager, production manager, producer and improviser. He stage manages large-scale celebrity galas and serves at the University of California drama department as the Associate Chair of Production. He is an interdisciplinary expert on the management of productions, resources and people – all through the lens of improvisation. In 2017 Joel founded the Global Improvisation Initiative Symposium at UCI, which has grown year on year, most recently moving fully remote due to the pandemic.
Theresa and Joel talk to us all about their fascinating careers and the power of improvisation in the wider world.
