Stand Firm In your Faith and Pray
Text: Ephesians 6:10-20 (vs 18-20)
Thesis: Prayer will produce victory in our Spiritual battles.
1. We must “Pray in the Spirit” (Vs. 18a).
A. Paul is not referring to the human spirit of a “team-spirit” but the
Holy Spirit of God.
B. The Holy Spirit of God lives within every “born again”
(See John 3:5-8) Christian.
1. The Holy Spirit can present requests to God, concerning a
Christian’s needs, that they cannot even articulate.
*In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know
what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through
wordless groans (Romans 8:26-27).”
2. There needs to be a constancy in prayer (vs. 18b)
A. Paul instructs us to pray “on all occasions” (NIV) or “always” (KJV).
* “Always” is the translation of the Greek phrase “en panti Kairo”. It can be
translated “in every time or season” (BBC, Ephesians, page 267).
1. Do not be concerned about being repetitious in prayer that may
appear to be “Babbling” (as Jesus referred to in Matthew 6:7) if your
heart is concerned about a genuine need.
* “Pray without ceasing” (KJV) or “continually” (NIV)
- 1 Thessalonians 5:17
3. We are taught to “always keep on praying for the saints” (vs. 18c)
A. “Always keep on” is promoting Christian perseverance in battle.
1. When things are difficult and you grow “tired and weary”, do not stop praying.
* “And as for you, brothers and sisters, never tire of doing what is good.”
- 2 Thessalonians 3:13)
*Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if you we
not give up (Galatians 6:9).”
B. “Pray for all of the Saints.”
1. Your fellow Christians are your comrades in the fight against evil.
2. Christians must stay unified in prayer.
* “The Family that prays together, stays together.”
3. The knowledge of your Church family praying for you will keep you strong in times
of absence.
*Christians in ungodly nations have testified that they
remained strong because they knew Christians in America
were praying for them.
4. Prayer ensures victory for the Christian!
* “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be
healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective (James 5:16).”
