#85 - Grosse Pointe Blank

If you've not seen this film before, you need to rectify that immediately. On the surface of it, it's a story about an assassin who returns to his home town to attend his high school reunion. But more than that, it's a darkly funny, seemingly improvised and star studded film that defies genre and makes sympathetic characters out of assholes. It also stars the always wonderful combination of John and Joan Cusack alongside Dan Akroyd and Minnie Driver. The dialogue is honestly insane, the set pieces are ridiculous (John Cusack trying to drip poison down string into someone's mouth only to fail and end up stabbing them to death? A fistfight with a melting man against a backdrop of school lockers?) and the characters are all quirky wierdos. It's a whole lot of fun as this week the Wreckfast Club presents, bing bing bing bing bang, popcorn: Grosse Point Blank!
