Big thank you to the founder of The Source magazine and The Source Awards Dave Mays for coming on my show for an interview! Dave discussed his introduction to Hip-Hop, his college radio show Go-Go Dave at Harvard, and creating The Source. He got into how he picked talent for the unsigned hype section of The Source. The Source's unsigned hype section included: The Notorious B.I.G., Common, Mobb Deep, and DMX. He talked about the 1995 Source Awards, the New York Hip-Hop fans booing Outkast, and bringing the Source Awards to Miami. Dave shared his view on Hip-Hop's message today, Nas finally winning a Grammy, and wanting to create an award show that shows appreciation towards the real Hip-Hop artists. He recently created his own platform called Breakbeat Media. He has The Dave Mays Show and Trap & Anonymous podcast as well as a 10 part series covering the life story of Larry Hoover coming soon.
