The Venerable Sister Mary of Jesus of Ágreda describes how St. Joseph asks for forgiveness from the Blessed Virgin Mary. She tells Joseph why she didn't say anything, and consoles Joseph. The Blessed Virgin Mary tells us that a lack of forgiveness on our part gives great offense to God. She says, "The cause of this reproach, which the Lord and I have to make against men, is the inhuman perversity of men in persisting to treat each other with so much want of humility and love. In this, they commit three faults, which displease the Most High very much and which cause the Almighty and me to withhold many mercies."
"For all of them wish that God, who is most grievously offended, should receive and pardon them, whenever they approach Him with humility and contrition; while those that are but dust and ashes, ask to be revenged upon their brothers and will not content themselves with the satisfaction, which the Most High himself readily accepts for their own sins."
