SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
We kick off a big talk on criticism once again, how we handle it as artists, where it comes from, how to know where it's coming from and so on. What we uncover is that there is no need to fear criticism in any form it comes from to find liberation.
POINT #1: "UNDERSTAND BEFORE YOU CRITICIZE"
- If you're active as a critic of an artistic medium it's important that you know what it entails, not just technically but personally and deeply. Whether that means you have to do it yourself and put your own work out there, intimately knowing what you criticize will make you more valuable to the process. Ask yourself, how would I like to receive criticism?
POINT #2: “TEAR IT ALL DOWN"
- Some people don't really provide constructive feedback. It's not particularly hard to tell when that happens -- usually full of jarring trash talk and cruel personal opinion without explanation of possible improvement. When you encounter this kind of talk, sweep it off.
POINT #3: “GREAT CRITICISM"
- It can be an art unto itself. It can help an artist see where they acted or expressed inauthentically or where the message got lost in the technique. It can be a spirit of cooperation to push communication further and bolder and even be a source of inspiration.
