In the second chapter, we learned what Paul, and by extension, God, expects of all those who claim His Name...to share in suffering for Christ! To be willing to suffer for His name sake, and to endure through trials in the image of Christ. But in this chapter, we learn why we will have to suffer in these last days! For people will be in love with themselves to greater extent than even in Paul's day. But not just people of this world, the infection of selfishness will infiltrate the Church as well. And it is to this end that Paul gives Timothy this charge, that is anyone desires to live a Godly life in Christ, they will be persecuted.
