This is the first of two episodes regarding Cuban dictator Fidel Castro. We begin with his life as the son of a wealthy planation owner and continue with the young man as he attempts to enter the political world. The abrupt cancelation of Fidel's congressional bid sent the young man into a tailspin. The attack on the Moncada barracks, the crossing on the Granma from Mexico and his guerrilla war in the Sierra Maestras are all discussed in detail. We'll begin to dive into Castro's first couple of years in power as he solidified his rule as well as Cuba's history with imperialism and Fidel's personality cult. The material in this podcast serves as an introduction to the International Baccalaureates' Paper two topic 10 - Authoritarian States (20th century).
