Trauma Transformed into Treasure
Text: Luke 1:26-38 (29-30)
Thesis: The Angel calls Mary to participate in God’s salvation plan and brings “comfort”
to her.
1. The Angel Gabriel was “God sent”. (Vs. 26)
A. God in his perfect timing is working out His perfect plan for all mankind.
1. “In the sixth month” - It was a point in time.
* “God is never late, He is never early, He is always right on time!”
2. “The virgin’s name was Mary” - God had a specific person in mind.
3. “You are highly favored” - God knows our heart and good deeds.
2. “Mary was greatly troubled” but the angel Gabriel seeks to comfort.
(Vs. 29)
A. Mary is overwhelmed by what is taking place.
B. The Angel Gabriel is not a heartless messenger, but the messenger of God’s Grace.
1. Gabriel is not only concerned about delivering God’s message; he is also
concerned about Mary’s mental and physical condition.
3. The angel Gabriel proclaims the incarnation miracle.
A. Gabriel explains to Mary God’s salvation plan.
B. Mary reveals to the Angel her difficulty in understanding.
* “How will this be...since I am a virgin?”

C. The Angel Gabriel explains in detail.
* “The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High
will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.”

D. Gabriel recognizes her confusion and adds two reasons to believe.
1st - “Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said
to be barren is in her sixth month.”

2nd - “For nothing is impossible with God.”

E. Mary acknowledges and accepts God’s plan for her life.
* “I am the Lord’s Servant,” Mary answered. “May it be to me as you have said.” Then the angel
left her.”
