Pastor Phil Kniss highlighted the struggle that early Christians had in understanding the nature of God as trinity. How do we understand that there is one God, but at the same time that God is manifested in three parts? Eastern Christians tend to be more comfortable with this mystery, while Western Christians struggle with the illogical nature of the Trinity.
N.T. Wright says this is not a mind-game. We need to accept the Trinity as a mystery. Romans 5:1-5 says that through Christ we can have peace with God, and we experience God's love through the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. John 14:23-29 also points to Jesus as God in the flesh, and the Spirit as the on-going presence of God. The Trinity is not some dry theological concept. How will we respond to the Trinity, our God in three parts?
