It all begins with a meme. In this Episode of The GRID, host Chris Kuhlmann explores worship vs idolatry. Where do we draw the line, who or what do we bow to? Idolatry is seldom addressed in our modern society, and we can easily avoid it by staying focused on the One worthy of our worship. Chris will shed some light in this brief episode.

NEWS RECAP
A quick recap of some of the major news of the week.
OMICRON News
It is spreading fast across the country. Many states now reporting the majority of their cases are of the OMICRON variant. It’s still early, but data suggests that it is much more infectious than the delta variant, but much less virulent (mild cold, no hospitalization). While that still may indicate a strain on the healthcare system due to the overall increase in numbers, the actual individual risk is likely to be far less.
Flight Cancelations
https://www.npr.org/sections/national/
Thousands more flights canceled on Christmas Day, putting a damper on holiday travel
The backlog is even worse than it was on Christmas Eve, with 2,521 flights cancelled worldwide, according to Flight Aware. Because of the strict quarantine protocols, these cancelled flights are due to staffing shortages. Even in the healthcare industry, organizations are openly asking for a relaxing of quarantine periods due to the severe staffing shortage.
Dec 22
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued an emergency use authorization (EUA) for Pfizer’s Paxlovid (nirmatrelvir tablets and ritonavir tablets, co-packaged for oral use) for the treatment of mild-to-moderate coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in adults and pediatric patients (12 years of age and older weighing at least 88 pounds) with positive results of direct SARS-CoV-2 testing, and who are at high risk for progression to severe COVID-19, including hospitalization or death. Paxlovid is available by prescription only and should be initiated as soon as possible after diagnosis of COVID-19 and within five days of symptom onset.
Supreme Court
www.Scotusblog.org
With COVID-19 cases surging across the country, the Supreme Court fast-tracked two disputes over the Biden administration’s efforts to expand vaccinations. In an unusual move, the justices announced on Wednesday night that they will hear oral arguments on Jan. 7 on two federal policies: a vaccine-or-test mandate for workers at large employers, and a vaccine mandate for health care workers at facilities that receive federal funding.
The cases came to the court last week on an emergency basis, and the formal question in both disputes is whether the government should be allowed to enforce the policies while litigation challenging them continues. But the justices’ views on whether to grant emergency relief will likely be influenced by their views on the merits of the underlying challenges themselves.
SHOW NOTES - HE ONLY KING
Hopefully you listened to our podcast two weeks ago about obedience to those in authority as this is going to somewhat dovetail off of that conversation. If you have not listened to it, then stop this podcast right now and go listen to that one first; it will be of more value to you if you have heard them in order.
I’ve seen many many t-shirts with slogans, and believe me, Facebook is overrun with various meme themed t-shirts. Some are very serious in their call for disobedience such as “I will not comply,” to some of the more funny ones like, “We are the democrats, we believe in science….except that whole chromosome thing, we don’t believe that one.”
But one of my absolute favorites says this, “I only bow to one man, and He died on a cross.” That is where we pick up today.
As a recap from the obedience podcast, we talked about the high bar our founding fathers set for civil disobedience as well as the biblical threshold for disobeying those in authority over us. If we are openly called to stop preaching the Bible, to sin, to worship that which we should not, these are times to disobey. But clearly, we should not engage in disobedience for light and transient causes. But I digress.
So let’s talk about that last meme, and specifically let’s talk about worship. I pray that each of you have not only enjoyed Christmas, but had a time to reflect the reason for the season, the object of our worship, our true King, Jesus Christ. In this holiday season, and truly for all seasons, there is only One who is worthy of our worship, and He was born in a manger, but died on a cross, and was resurrected from a cave, From a stable, to a cross, from a grave, Jesus is the only one worthy of our worship.
At the Kingdom Patriot Group, we have spent considerable time bringing awareness and to call to action those choices made by our leaders that are taking us down a dangerous path. But, our ultimate calling is to share the Gospel in the process. I’m aware that many who feel as I do about our government, are filled with fear, anger, vitriol, thoughts of vengeance, and believing that if we elect the right people, we can relax because we can be saved. That my friends, is why we are talking today.
If you truly believe our problems are solved if we get the right people elected, the wrong people removed, the right people on the court, the wrong school board members removed, and the right ones in place, you have missed the point. If you live in fear if we are unsuccessful, then all is lost, then I submit that your hope is misplaced and in fact is misplaced in idols.
Don’t get me wrong, I love my country. I believe in the principles this country was founded upon, but at the end of the day, if my hope lives and dies with our system of government, then I in effect, have elevated our leaders, our democracy, our country to idol status. What is an idol? While sin is easily recognizable, more noble things can masquerade as worthy when in reality they can be idols…such as hard work, family, marriage, children, sports, hunting, exercise, healthy foods, you name it. Anything in which worship that is NOT God is an idol.
I think it’s easy to criticize from the right, because we see the progressive left absolutely worship the nanny state, they worship moral relativism, they worship the cause to destroy faith. But Christian conservatives can fall into the same trap as we worship “the founding fathers” or the “Constitution’s original intent” or “our democracy.” At the end of the day, there is only one worthy of our worship, and that is Jesus Christ.
As we continue in the midst of the heart of December, we have one king to bow before, and that’s Christ. While we are called obey those in authority over us, those in that authority ultimately answer to my King, Jesus Christ. That is who we should worship. Our redresses should be before our King. How do we do that? How do we deal with our anxieties about our government? Through prayer, petition, with thanksgiving….and the peace of God that transcends all understanding will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus as we see in Philippians 4:6-7
…and we can’t have a conversation about worshipping our one true King, without talking about idols. I think many idols are obvious because they are blatant sin. The love of money, sexual immorality, and power. But for my conservative friends, I’m going to speak directly to you today, because we need to be every diligent against idol worship as well.
Here are just some of those idols that come to mind:
Why do I mention these? Because all of these have the potential to become our gods (little g) but in doing so, these objects of worship replace our Father, big “G.” What is so deceiving is that many of these things appear to be culturally good. I mean, who wouldn’t want to be devoted to their family at all costs.
Yet, I bring these up because of our very conversation today. Who is worthy of our worship? We just celebrated Christmas because of Jesus, our one true King, the only one worthy of our worship. If that’s true, then nothing is more important than our pursuit of Him. Yes the Kingdom Patriot Group is promoting faith and freedom, but even the pursuit of freedom is secondary to our pursuit of Christ. Although, we absolutely want the freedom to pursue without hindrance, but the Bible shows us that persecution will only increase.
Maybe I should have led with this today, but the definition of worship is this:
Let’s render our reverence and homage, and adoration, and regard for the only person who ever lived that is worthy, Jesus. As the meme earlier stated, I bow to one man, and He died on a cross. Again, I hope you had a very merry Christmas and I can’t wait for what 2022 has for you and the Kingdom Patriot Group.
