Ep.49: the 91st Episode! Return of SAGA! MonsterVerse, Book of Boba ep4, Cursed Pirate Girl, & DC/Marvel APRIL Solicits!
Good morrow and happy anniversary! That's right, Sensational She-Geek Live from Yancy street has been a podcast regularly updated for one whole year! That year has found lots of change in the industry as well as personally, giving us a whopping 90 episodes, and making this the glorious 91st! So kick back and get ready to enjoy the first ever anniversary episode!
NEWS of the week actually features actual news for once, which is exciting. It includes The Batman runtime, AppleTV+'s MonsterVerse show announcement, Marvel's 2022 Women's History covers, Daredevil rebooting with #1 in June, the official green light for Percy Jackson and the Olympians, and one unjust cancellation. This all starts at 0:08:28!
the RUMORS portion of the news can be found at 0:31:02, covering the Daredevil She-Hulk rumors (and an explanation on his first-ever comic suit), and some Secret Wars speculation based off of recent leaked images.
Weekly Comic Book Picks start at 0:34:36 with a special edition discussion of the Cursed Pirate Girl saga by Jeremy Bastian! It came out with it's fifth chapter, The Devil's Cave, this past week, which led me into a deep dive on the series, which I share in summary here with you. Other Picks of the week include Bolero #1, She0Hulk #1 (of 5 :( ), Home Sick Pilots, and more.
The Weekly Comic Pull list, at 0:47:23, covers a surprising number of independent #1 comics and a few delightful comic book specials, but the best comes last (1:01:01) with a short, excited bit on the glorious return of Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples' Saga! Gone since 2018 and the hype is as big as ever.
The most recent Book of Boba Fett rundown for episode 4, The Gathering Storm, can be found at 1:03:51. I cover a brief overview of the episode's events, including more on how cool Fennec Shand is, the story of the hatred between Wookies and Trandoshans, and theories on where the final 3 episodes will be taking us--or who they'll show us.
Since they've both been released, I went ahead and covered both the Marvel (1:10:08) and DC (1:27:50) April comic book solicitations. I cover these each month because it's a good way to keep your ear to the ground as to what's going on at two of the biggest players in the geek industries, as well as to hopefully pique listeners' interests to something in those goings-on. It's also a good way to get to know common creator names in the industry!
I'll be back with another episode next week, on January 31st! We'll cover comic Picks (based off this week's Pulls) and next week's Pull list, this week's Book of Boba Fett episode 5, and anything else relevant! We're already through the first month of 2022, folks, keep it sweaty!
