A Unified Soul
Text: James 1:1-8
Thesis: A Double minded person is unstable in all he does, but a
person with a “Unified Soul” will see their prayers answered.
1. God is calling all Christians to be single minded. (vs. 1-8)
A. James begins this book of the Bible by declaring his single
mindedness (vs. 1).
* “James a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ.”
1. James had settled the big question in his heart, “Who do
you serve?”
a. Do you serve self, the world and its pleasures or can you proclaim as James
did, I am “a servant of God and the Lord Jesus Christ”?
B. James in his open declaration, reveals that he is not ashamed of the Lord Jesus Christ.
* “If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and
sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his Father’s
glory with the holy angels.”
Mark 8:38
1. Peter denied Jesus three times before the rooster crowed but Jesus
reinstated him.
2. Paul , after his conversion, makes a similar statement as James. He states, “I am not
ashamed of the Gospel because it is the power of God for the salvation
3. God is calling you and I to settle it in our hearts in whom we serve
C. James reveals that a double minded person is unstable in all that he does.
D. James points out that if we are double minded that our prayers will not be
answered.
* “That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord.”
James 1:7
E. James reveals that a double minded person is “Unstable” in all areas of their lives.
1. Joshua as the retiring leader of Israel gives God’s people this choice:
* “But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom
you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in
whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.”
Joshua 24:15
