Today's #BattleDrill: Read 1 John 2:15-17. Do you ever allow your circumstances to dictate your choices to you? I know I have on occasion. #salvationarmy #basingstoke #devotional
You may have a packet of chocolate digestives in the cupboard. That doesn’t necessarily mean the right choice is to eat them all – in one sitting! You may have a credit card with free credit on it sitting in your purse or wallet. It’s not always the right choice to choose to spend on it. You may have had a promotion in your work or even silver braid on your Salvation Army epaulettes but that doesn’t give you permission to throw your weight around.
Circumstances can sometimes look good but then turn disastrous. We can’t trust them. Why? Because one day they will pass away. Only God’s promises stand firm. Jesus’ life, death and resurrection guarantee us eternal life with God. John says anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.
Your small group of Christian friends can help you see when you get off track. They can help you discern the choices that will please God and help you avoid putting your trust in things that will pass away. What can you do to please God today?
THINK IT OVER
Think about the following:
o Why is it sometimes easier to trust what our circumstances tell us is the right thing to do rather than God’s word? How can our small group of Christian friends help us in these situations?
