Overview: The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) makes shared clinical decision-making recommendations when individuals may benefit from vaccination, but broad vaccination of all people in that group is unlikely to have population-level impact. Such a recommendation is applicable to pneumococcal vaccines whereby pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) is recommended for all adults 65 and older, while the administration of pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) is based on shared decision-making. In this podcast, we will discuss the ACIP recommendations and the use of shared decision-making as it applies to pneumococcal vaccines.
